4 scientific fields join forces to tackle all limitations
to the development of sustainable electronics
Developing fully circular and sustainable electronic boards in line with the European Chips Act, is a highly ambitious goal.
To address this complex and important issue, DESIRE4EU gathers with its partners a critical amount of expertise from at least four complementary scientific domains:
material science specialists will focus on the development of multilayer composites (including high-Tg biopolymers, copper laminating, biosourced reinforcement mapping and flame retardant) with mechanical, thermal and dielectric properties close to the classical FR4 substrates.
green chemistry specialists will work on the development of industrially credible specific non-polluting protection layers to be coated on the biosourced PCB to control its biodegradability.
electronics specialists will guarantee that the electronic properties of the new solution not only remain in line with current needs and standards of the industry, but also can be produced in the conditions close to current practices and equipments.
environmental microbiology specialists will actively work on the bio-degradation phase of the life cycle of our new bio-based PCB, to check the bio-compatibility and the lack of toxicity of all of their components on micro-organisms.
With such an imbrication of competences and expertise, DESIRE4EU loudly claims its holistic nature and transdisciplinary approach, well beyond traditional inter-disciplinarity.
