The 50th edition of the International Conference on Micro- and Nano Engineering (MNE) took place in Montpellier, France between 16 and 19 September 2024. The scientific tracks of the conference covered all areas impacted by Micro/Nano Engineering activities but a new topic focused on sustainability: Energy efficiency of Micro/Nano Engineering & Environmental and ecological applications. The objectives and challenges of  the DESIRE4EU project were presented by Pascal Wavier, coordinator of the project, during a tutorial entitled “Sustainable electronics: could examples in RF, power electronics or printed circuit board be used for micro and nanoelectronics?”.  Several interesting exchanges between academic and industrial participants and specialists emerged around these questions and highlighted the urgent need to reduce the environmental footprint of electronic devices during their entire life-cycle.
