Toward new bio-based Printed circuit boards

To rethink how electronics are made, used, and eventually disposed of is a key challenge for DESIRE4EU, and one important step in that direction is the work on bio-based printed circuits made at Arduino.

In a recent article, Arduino details his contribution to DESIRE4EU on these new boards, successfully tested on Nano and UNO prototypes, that combine performance with a reduced environmental impact.

The article also highlights our common holistic approach to sustainability, including innovative processes like bio-leaching for copper recovery using bacterial processes instead of energy-intensive chemical treatments.

As they announced, they should be able to distribute soon 1,000 open-source compatible beta boards and there will be a need for testers, educators, and innovators to help to evaluate performance in real-world applications.

Agreat step forward to a more sustainable future for electronics in Europe and beyond.
